Mary Margaret Tardy
National Certified Counselor
My name is Mary Margaret and I am so happy that you are here. I am very passionate about expressive arts and using art as a healing process. I hope to utilize this in creating a safe environment to promote healing with my clients.
My counseling style integrates a holistic approach combined with mindfulness and play therapy techniques, such as Sand Tray Therapy, Trauma Play, and Child-Centered play therapy. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques. I am family systems based so I like to learn about the family system (as a whole) while working with my clients.
I specialize in working with children (ages 2 and up), teens, adolescents, college students, and parents. I particularly enjoy walking alongside my clients’ parents and include parents in my work through dyadic assessments and parent feedback sessions.
My areas of specialty include ADD, ADHD, anger, anxiety and worry, attachment issues, body issues, separation anxiety, coping skills, divorce, depression, eating disorders, emotional regulation, family conflict, family changes, grief, loss, learning disabilities, LGBTQ+, life transitions, OCD, oppositional defiance, parenting, parent/child dynamics, perfectionism, personal growth, bullying, self-esteem, social skills, stress and stress management, and trauma.
I have extensive experience counseling those who have undergone trauma related to loss, neglect, and abuse. I worked as a counselor intern serving a diverse range of children, adolescents, and families at Paris Goodyear-Brown’s clinic outside of Nashville, TN.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association, the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling, Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society, and a student member of the Association for Play Therapy.
I received my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Play Therapy from Lipscomb University. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and I am currently working towards full licensure under the supervision and direction of Dr. Christi Bartolomucci, Ph.D., LPC, CPCS.
